Jay Steven Rivers Class of 1977

Jay Steven Rivers passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on November 13, 2025, at LSU Ochsner Medical Center in Shreveport, LA, after a brief illness.

Jay was born in Shreveport, LA, on October 29,1958, to Raymond Rew Baird and Barbara Frances Corry. Jay’s father died in an accident when Jay was three-months old. His mother remarried James Henry Rivers who adopted Jay and his siblings and raised them as his own.

Jay was a Neville High School graduate in the class of 1977 where he played defense for the Neville Tiger football team. He was a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University where he played football and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Jay established Ram Rent-All in 1981. He was a member of the Bayou DeSiarid County Club, served as Past President and is currently the Secretary of the Louisiana Rental Association. He loved his dogs. Raised in a family with four sisters, he developed a stronger affection for his dogs than for people. He loved to cruise Bayou Desiard (always with his “woobie” from The Cigar Factory) and playing Jimmy Buffett music with his dogs, family, and friends. He was famous for his crawfish boils, Bar-B-Ques, and football parties. He loved Wednesday night poker games at the BDCC and loved hunting and fishing at Grand Isle, LA. He held a license with Moorings Yacht Charters and enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean.

He was always there for his boys as a loving father and mentor. Undoubtedly, he was the best brother four gals could ever have. He was a kind soul with a soft and caring heart – his generosity unchallenged. In fact, his last act of giving was the gift of life through organ donation.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Frances Corry; his fathers, Raymond Rew Baird and James Henry Rivers; his paternal grandparents, Raymond Rew and Ruth Tyner Baird of Shreveport, LA, and Vagie Henry Rivers and Jewel Daffin Rivers of Monroe, LA; and his maternal grandparents, Loyce Frances Ross and James Robert Corry, Sr. of Monroe.

He is survived by his children, Brett Wiley Rivers and Blaine Corry Rivers; his foundling child, Jake Mayo (Maggie); his siblings, Cyndy Rivers Perry (John), Michelle “Chelle” Rivers, Stephanie Rivers Randolph (Bob), and Quincie Rivers (Lois); Debbie Rivers; his niece, Jamie Perry Joseph (David); his nephews, J. W. Perry (Megan) and Tyner Rivers Guillot (Cathy); and his great-grandnieces and nephews, Perry and Chaney Frances Joseph and Rivers and Vivian Perry. His beloved brother and lifelong closest friend, Clift McCall, “Chief” also survives him.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
